124 killed in communal disturbances in 2005: Home Ministry

New Delhi, Mar 16 (UNI) As many as 124 persons were killed and 2,066 injured in communal incidents during 2005, Union Home Ministry said today.

In its annual report for 2005-06, it said the country witnessed a total of 779 communal incidents.

"However, the overall communal situation in the country remained under control," it said.

The report said the Union Government had been closely monitoring the situation and the law enforcing agencies were keeping a strict vigil on the activities of individuals and organisations to ensure that the situation remains under control.
