Textile Mill workers want demolition of Anglo-French mill
Pondicherry, Mar 15 (UNI) Pondicherry Textile Mill Labourers Union, affiliated to the CPI, today urged the administration to demolish the the Anglo-French textile mill buildings which are in a state of collapse here.
In a letter to Lt Governor M M Lakhera, Union Secretary V S Abishegam regretted that though the Lt Governor, after his visit to the mill in October 2005, had promised to take steps to renovate the buildings, nothing had happened so far. The roof of the 'A' unit spinning department was in a state of disrepair and machines were stopped, fearing it might collapse if they were operated.
Mr Abishegam urged the Lt Governor to utilise the Rs 7.5 crore deposited in banks, which was allocated for renovation of the old buildings in 1997.
