Task force set up to check illegal mining
Kohima, Mar 15 (UNI) The Nagaland government has constituted a state level task force for monitoring and checking mining including illegal mining in the state under the Nagaland (ownership and transfer of land and its resources) Act 1990.
Official sources said the task force would review actions taken by the mining officials or forest officials and the state government for checking illegal mining activity in their respective jurisdictions.
The task force would also review the coordination between the member departments and hold discussions on pending issues, besides collecting information for quarterly returns to be submitted to the Centre.
The state government also constituted a Flying squad team comprising departmental officials for four districts of Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon and Phek to prevent illegal mining and transportation. The team will cover all the four districts at least twice a month and will collect information about illegal mining as well as illegal transport of coal and other minerals and submit a report to the directorate office.
The task force is headed by the Secretary (Geology and Mining).
While the members are Director (Gand M), Superintendent mining (Gand M), Deputy Commissioners, Superintendents of police, representatives of the state, among others.
