Shurozelie for democratic stir
Kohima, Mar 15 (UNI) Nagaland Minister for Higher and Technical Education Shurhozelie said any agitation should be democratic and not violent.
Mr Shurhozelie, who was reacting to the violent agitation of the Post Graduate Students' Union (PGSU) of Nagaland University in an informal chat with the mediamen, said Nagaland University is a Central University and the properties belonged to the people, which should be preserved carefully.
On the issue of resignation of Vice-chancellor G D Sharma, the minister maintained that the allegations against him were not true and the state government had nothing to do with the central university.
He, however, said the Ministry of Human Resource Development (NHRD) was fully aware of the ongoing situation in the Nagaland University and state government was hopeful that the MHRD would make alternative arrangments to continue the academic activities of the university.
On the University Grant Commission (UGC) fund of Rs seven crore, the minister said the state government was aware of the fund and the government was ready to donate a plot of land for a proposed engineering college in Nagaland.
The land was yet to be allocated as the final approval from the All India Institute of Technical Education for the college was still coming.
