Kohima, Mar 15: The agitation by the Post Graduate Students Union (PGSU) demanding acceptance of resignation of vice-chancellor prof G D Sharma of Nagaland university relaxed temporarily today following assurances from the Centre.

The Nagaland University Teachers' Association (NUTA) is agitating to put pressure on the Ministry of Human Resource Development to accept the resignation of Mr Sharma, who submitted his resignation on February 28 last.

The members of the PGSU today relaxed their agitation after 15 days when they received a positive response from the Centre.

Sources said they relaxed the agitation temporarily following the demand of the Centre to send a seniority list of professors under Nagaland University for an alternative arrangement.

Meanwhile, the agitation had spread to the Lumami campus of Nagaland University in Zunheboto district.

The members of the PGSU of Lumami campus burnt effigies of Mr Sharma and the registrar, set the furnitures to flames, damaged signboards and window panes.

The students said this was only the first phase of their agitation in Lumami to attract the attention of Delhi.
