Shillong, Mar 15 (UNI) A comprehensive policing policy encompassing all major aspects of law and order would be chalked out soon, Meghalaya Director General of Police W R Marbaniang has said.

A batch of 25 Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) officers, who would be posted in the special branch of the State Police would be authorised to take cognizance of all breaches of discipline and initiate punitive measures in all police stations of the state.

Mr Marbaniang also informed that the police department would soon acquire state-of-the-art equipment for modernisation of the state police force.

The police department would have a separate 'Traffic Engineering' branch to deal with the rising traffic congestion in the capital city, the DG said. ''The traffic regulatory system has reached the point of saturation, so, what we now require is traffic engineering,'' he emphasised.

Earlier, the police chief rewarded four constables of a special party for having dealt with a law and order situation in an effective and exemplary manner.

ABC Akash Roy, ABC A Das, UBC MB Chettri and UBC DS Kharbani were rewarded in cash for having averted a major law and order problem involving immoral activity in the Laitumkhrah area of the city recently.
