Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) In an effort to implement what is preached, the Maharashtra government secretariat (Mantralaya) will cut down electricity consumption by 20 per cent.

An official release here today said as the months of April and May will see the power deficit of 250 to 275 megawatts in Mumbai, the state government has directed its employees in the Mantralaya to ensure that electricity wastage is stopped. A group headed by deputy secretary of each department will be set up to ensure that the directives are implemented.

The PWD department has set up a group comprising three employees to monitor switching off tubelights and fans on each floor at 1900 hrs.

Surprise checks will be conducted every month and stern action would be taken, if the directives regarding 20 per cent cut down in power consumption are not being implemented, the release added.
