Karnataka to felicitate Kumble for his feat

Bangalore, Mar 15 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will felicitate ace leggie Anil Kumble for becoming the first Indian bowler to claim over 500 wickets in test cricket, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Alkod Hanumanthappa informed today.

Talking to reporters here, he said the date and the place was yet to be fixed for the felicitation programme for the feat achieved by the Bangalorean during the second test against England at Mohali.

''The people of the State are proud of him and we wish him well to reach further heights in the game,'' the Minister said.

Mr Hanumanthappa said the Government was planning to build stadia at taluk level to promote sports activities in rural areas in the next four years.

The Government had received Rs 100 crore grant last year from the Centre for the purpose, but it was not implemented due to various reasons, he added.
