Chennai, Mar 15 (UNI) Madras High Court today adjourned to next week hearing on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a direction to the authorities concerned to remove all the unauthorised hoardings erected by political parties in Chennai City.

When the PIL filed by K Kanagaraj of Thiruvatriyur came up for hearing before Chief Justice A P Shah and Ms Justice Prabha Sridevan, the Division Bench adjourned the hearing to next week.

During the hearing, the Bench said all over the city there were hoardings depicting some individuals. They asked, who paid for it? The Corporation had to frame some rules. There should not be any hoardings in heritage buildings like High Court, University of Madras and Anna University. They should be removed.

The Bench asked Advocate T Mohan, who was present in the court, about his earlier case relating to hoardings.

Mr Mohan said it went up to the Supreme Court. The apex court gave six months time to remove the hoardings, which were hazardous in nature and prevented visiblity. Even after three years no action had been taken, he added.

He said regulations were not being implemented. There was also a jurisdiction problem between the corporation and the collector.

The bench asked Mr Mohan to bring all concerned papers with regard to hoardings on the next hearing.
