Governor, CM condole Devarajan's death

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 15 (UNI) Kerala Governor R L Bhatia today condoled the death of renowned Malayalam music director G Devarajan, who died in Chennai early today.

''I am deeply saddened by the demise of Devarajan who was well versed in both classical and the folk music,'' he said in a condolence message here.

Devarajan would be remembered for his songs that captivated countless music lovers for more than five decades, Mr Bhatia said.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also condoled the death and said the songs directed by Devarajan would ever be remembered by Keralites.

The Kerala Peoples Arts Club (KPAC), with which Devarajan was associated for many years, said his demise was a major loss to it and also to the whole of Kerala. Almost all the songs in KPAC plays were made popular with Devarajan's touch.

The Communist Party of India also condoled Devarajan's death.

Devarajan died of a heart attack at his residence in Chennai early today. The mortal remains will be brought here tomorrow for the final rites.
