Fire engulfs bottling plant of a multi-national Co at Dankuni

Kolkata, Mar 15 (UNI) A major fire today destroyed a section of the newly constructed bottling plant of a multinational softdrink producer at Dankuni near here.

According to fire Brigade sources, four fire tenders fought nearly three hours to control the flames, which engulfed the plant, situated about 45 km from here along the Durgapur Expressway in the district.

Categorically denying the allegation that fire tenders reached the spot late causing the fire to spread further, the sources said, on the contrary, a major disaster was averted because of their timely action.

They said preliminary investigations revealed that sparks from a welding machine had ignited the fire in the packaging division, which later spread to adjoining areas in the plant.

At least one employee of the company sustained minor injuries while trying to douse the flames.

However, the company officials had refused to comment on the extent of damage, estimated to be several lakhs of rupees.
