Fever grips Malegaon

Nashik, Mar 15 (UNI) A dengue type fever has gripped Malegaon city on Mumbai-Agra national Highway, affecting at least 2,000 people, 500 of whom have been hospitalised so far.

Confirming the spread of what Malegaon Municipal Corporation chief medical officer Dr Hussaindin Sheikh described as 'chicken gunia', has affected the people because of insanitary conditions.

He said more than 500 people have been admitted to two municipal hospitals and one government hospital in the city so far.

The disease is indicated by high fever and joint pains, according to doctors, who are attended the patients. The condition in all the three hospitals has deteriorated with the rains lashing the city since this afternoon.

Patients have been accommodated in the compounds of the hospitals.

With tents leaking because of rains, the hospital compounds have been flooded with rain water causing misery to the patients.
