Jammu, Mar 15 (UNI) Member of Parliament and National Conference patron Farooq Abdullah today said that he was ready to campaign for the Left Front (LF) in Asom, where the Assembly elections are to be held shortly.

Mr Abdullah, after attending a party function here, told UNI that he was ready to campaign for LF in Assam if he got an invitation from it. The party will take appropriate decision on the matter, he added. When asked about campaigning for LF in West Bengal Assembly election, he said he had no such plans.

Answering to a question regarding demilitarisation proposal by the Pakistani President General Musharraf, he said India and Pakistan have to decide on the issue, ''the relations between the two countries were improving,'' he added.

Appreciating the initiatives taken by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to solve the Kashmir problem, the former CM of Jammu and Kashmir said Track II policy initiatives, like people to people contact and recent conferences held in Delhi and Islamabad with the concerned factions were the right steps in the direction.

Mr Abdullah condemned the Varanasi blasts, saying some forces were trying to create a wedge between the two communities in the name of religion, but they would not succeed as the people had understood the ulterior design of the forces.
