Bangalore, Mar 15 (UNI) The prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, has yet again proved to be a most preferred B-school in the country, with all its 182 graduates this year getting placed in domestic and foreign companies with whopping compensation packages.

IIM-B Placement Representative Saurav Bhansal informed mediapersons here today that while Rs 30 lakh per annum was the highest pay packet offered by a domestic company for an investment banking job in the country, Rs 16 lakh was the highest domestic offer accepted by an IIM-B graduate. The hefty pay packet this year, an increase of Rs one lakh over the previous year's figures, was offered by Bain and Co and Goldman Sachs.

UK-based Barclays had made the highest oversears offer, among all IIMs, of 193,000 US dollars per annum to Gaurav Agarwal. While the average international salary was 90,000 US dollars per annum, it was Rs nine lakh in the domestic market, he said.

Mr Bhansal said 26 per cent of the students opted for a consulting career, the highest across all IIMs. McKinsey and Co emerged the single largest recruiter in this year's placement, inducting nine students into its fold. Investment Banking (26 per cent), Finance (16), Marketing (15) and IT (13) were the other sectors which found favour among the students.

Operations and General Management had the least takers with just six per cent management graduates opting for it, he added.

However, IIM-B Director Prakash G Apte chose to brush aside the euphoria attached to the hefty pay packets bagged by the graduates, stating that the increase in compensation was not significant. With the economy growing rapidly, there was nothing exceptional about the huge financial packages offered, he said.
