36 injured in Holi revellery in Bengal

East Midnapur/Barrackpore, Mar 15 (UNI) Altogether 36 people have been injured in different parts of Bengal in clashes during Holi, police today said.

At least 26 people, including six policemen, were injured in a clash between two groups of revellers in Chaitanyapur village yesterday, East Midnapur Police Superintendent Ashok Dutta said.

The clash started over the use of caps during Holi festival. A large police contingent, led by the SDPO Tamluk, rushed to the spot to control the situation. The two groups suddenly united and started throwing brickbats at the police.

The mob also set ablaze four police vehicles. Police had to resort to lathicharge to bring the situation under control.

Six police officers, including the SDPO and OC Sutahata police station, were injured when struck by brickbats. All the injured have been admitted to Haldia Hospital.

Revellers also clashed in different places in North 24 Parganas district leaving ten people injured.

Police said three people sustained serious injuries during a clash between members of two clubs at Charapole in Kanchrapara.

Police arrested six people.

A young man was stabbed by a miscreant at Kakinara under Jagaddal police station yesterday evening. He was admitted to Bhatpara state general hospital.
