West Bengal celebrates Holi
Kolkata, Mar 14 (UNI) West Bengal today celebrated Holi, marking the triumph of good over evil, with colours, traditional songs and dance.
While the colour festival is known as 'Holi' in other parts of the country, it is popular as 'Dol-Jatra' here.
Cutting across age barriers people in all parts of the state participated in the annual fest.
"The spring time with birds chirping and singing gives a wonderful feeling. It is really a nice experience," said Mr Satyen Chakraborty, who organised a special Holi gathering in a local club at South Kolkata.
The local clubs in different parts of the state capital have also organised plays, songs and art competitions in the later part of the day.
No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the state so far, police said.
Security arrangements have been beefed up across the important installations, railway stations and places of public importance to prevent any untoward incidents on the occasion.
