Villagers initiative reduces cattle smuggling
Bongaon, Mar 14 (UNI) Interaction between inhabbitants of north 24 pargana villages bordering Bangladesh and the BSF led to substantial reduction of cattle smuggling to Bangladesh, BSF battalion sources said today.
The officials of 193 battalion of BSF claimed that cattle smuggling could be prevented after the village leaders of these areas decided to impose fine of Rs 2,000 per cattle from the people who indulged in smuggling by making their villages corridors.
The village leaders also decided to fine Rs 500 from households who provide shelter for cattles to be smuggled resulting in substantial reduction of smuggling in the areas which were once free zones for cattle smuggling, the sources added.
