Kurukshetra, Mar 14 (UNI) At least two male peacocks have been killed by the poachers in the Kurukshetra University campus.

Their carcasses only with one leg, neck and some pieces of flesh were found in the dustbins yesterday. There were no feathers on them, eyewitnesses said.

This is the second such incident when the poachers have targeted the university campus and killed the national protected bird. Its colourful feathers are used for decoration and flesh for medicines.

Last year also, some poachers had killed peacocks and ran away with them.

About a dozen peacocks are seen in the campus area and out of them only three were makes. Now after the incident, only one male peacock is left.

The wild life officials of Haryana Forest department were not available for comments at their Divisional Forest Office at Pipli.
