Three, including CBI Deputy Legal Advisor arrested

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three persons, including a Deputy Legal Advisor of the CBI in Mumbai, for their involvement in a racket wherein several people accused in CBI cases were sought to be favoured at different stages of the prosecution in return for bribes.

The arrests follow raids conducted by the CBI, on March 11 and March 13, at 8 premises in Mumbai, including the residential as well as office premises of the CBI Deputy Legal Advisor, a CBI spokesperson said.

Searches at the residence of the DLA led to seizure of Kisan Vikas Patras worth Rs.18.76 lakhs, Investments in IDBI and elsewhere worth Rs.12.58 lakhs and bank balances worth about Rs 3 lakh, apart from other incriminating documents.

Those arrested also include a CBI constable attached to the DLA and another man.

A case has been registered against the accused under Section 120-B IPC r/w Sections 8 (taking gratification, in order, by corrupt or illegal means, to influence public servant) and 14 (Habitual committing of offence u/s section 8) of the PC Act, 1988.

The spokesperson said the CBI action is part of the continuing drive to check corruption in the different organs of CBI and to ensure high standards of integrity.
