Steps to be taken for stadium in every taluk in K'taka

Dharwad, Karnataka, Mar 14 (UNI) Karnataka Sports and Youth Services Minister Hanumantappa Alkod today said steps will be taken to construct a stadium in every taluk in the State.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the Centre had released Rs 100 crore for the purpose, to be spent in four years. Works would be taken up after the Centre relaxed some of the restrictions.

Mr Alkod said he had urged Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy to increase the present grant to his Ministry to Rs 11 crore from the present Rs three crore.

To a question, he agreed that awards to sportspersons were not given for the past two years and said that from this year, awards would be presented to deserving sportspersons.

The Minister, who visited the district stadium here and inspected the under construction indoor stadium at a cost of Rs 99 lakh, said Rs 60 lakh for the indoor stadium would be released soon and efforts would be made to complete the stadium in another six months.
