Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road blocked by quake survivors
Baramulla, Mar 14: Thousands of survivors of the devastating earthquake of October 8 last year blocked the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road for several hours today in protest against inadequate relief.
Official sources said the protestors, drawn from several areas in the Baramulla district, converged on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, also known as the Jhelum Valley road, at Pattan, demanding adequate relief.
They shouted anti-government slogans and blocked the road for nearly three hours to press for their demand of relief at par with the survivors from other quake-hit areas.
Senior civil and police officials later rushed to the area and assured the protestors of immediate redressal of their grievances.
Following the assurances, the protestors later dispersed and the traffic resumed on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
Meanwhile, the earthquake survivors of Baramulla district have formed an action committee and filed a writ petition in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court seeking adequate relief.
