Visakhapatnam, Mar 14 (UNI) CPI (Maoists) today alleged that the 'Salva Judum' organisation, which has launched an anti-Maoist movement in Chhattisgarh, was backed by the BJP-led Government and supported by the opposition Congress, on the lines of the imperialist attack on nations like Vietnam, Cambodia and Latin American countries.

In a statement sent to news offices here, Andhra-Orissa Border Committee Special Zonal Secretary Bhasker said Maoists were forced to attack 'Salva Judum' activists in Dharbaguda of Dantewada district recently because Chattisgarh government was using them to suppress tribal interests. Chief Minister Raman Singh and opposition leader Mahendra Karma should take responsibility for the killings, he said.

Using the 'Salva Judam', the government was resorting to extreme violence against poor tribals across the Advasi belt, in the name of anti-naxal operations, he charged.

'Salva Judum' had raised an anti-Maoist campaign in the southern parts of the state, which had seen a spate of insurgency related violence during the last two months. It targeted tribals who were supporters of Maoists, he added.

'This is a joint operation being conducted by the state and union governments where state-sponsored assassin gangs, on the lines of Cobras and Tigers, the private gangs operating in Andhra Pradesh, are killing innocent people with impunity. Even the print and electronic media are not highlighting the atrocities committed by 'Salva Judum'. As many as 100 tribals were killed between June 2005 and February 2006 by this gang. It was also threatening common people that they would be killed by Naga policemen, deployed in anti-insurgency measures taken up by the government, in case they did not cooperate with 'Salva Judum'. The state government has been providing weapons to gang members and paying them monthly wages apart from decorating them with ranks,' he alleged.

Bhasker, giving reasons for the birth of 'Koya Bhunkal Militia,' an Adivasi-armed battalion, said Advasis would combat 'Salva Judum' with their traditional weapons in their respective areas. The militia was targeting police, Naga jawans and the supporters of 'Salva Judum' movement. 'Dharbaguda ambush is nothing but a revolt against Adivasi suppression by the Chhattisgarh government. The tribals killed 'Salva Judum' activists when they were coming back after committing heinous acts like looting and torching the homes of tribals and even rapes.' He appealed to the elite, lovers of democracy, working class and farmers to realise the truth that led to the Darbhaguda incident.
