Raids on to arrest doctors involved in machine purchase scam

Patna, Mar 14 (UNI) Bihar state vigilance bureau carried out raids at various places to arrest the doctors involved in misappropriation of funds in purchase of equipment for the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Science (IGIMS) here.

Additional Director General (ADG) of state vigilance bureau Neelmani, said today that raids were being conducted to arrest the four accused in the scam after the issuance of warrant of arrest against them by the special vigilance court of Patna.

The accused against whom warrants were issued included Director IGIMS Dr D K Yadav, Eye Specialist Dr Subhash Prasad, the then financial advisor S R Gyene and Neel Mohan, a local agent of Bangalore based firm.

Earlier state vigilance bureau had lodged an FIR on March 4 this year against the 10 accused including the then Health Commissioner C K Basu and Director of IGIMS D K Yadav for their involvement in irregularities committed in purchase of the said machine.

The state government had released fund of Rs 1.5 crores fund to IGIMS for purchasing Eximer Laser Machine and a purchase committee was constituted under the chairmanship of the then Health Commissioner C K Basu. The purcahse committee had allegedly ignored the guidelines of the tenders floated for the purchase of the machine.

Eximer Laser Machine is used for treatment of eyes.
