PM Vanhanen rides and appreciates Delhi Metro
New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) Prime Minister of Finland Matti Vanhanen today took a ride on Delhi Metro from Central Secretariat to Rajiv Chowk and back.
Mr Vanhanen, along with his delegation, spent about an hour at the metro facilities, Delhi Metro Rail Corp sources said.
DMRC MD E Sreedharan briefed the prime minister and his delegation about the Delhi Metro Project.
Mr Vanhanen described the facility as 'one of the most modern Metro systems in the world' and appreciated DMRC for running the system profitably.
A company from Finland, Kone Corp had supplied 79 lifts and 71 escalators from Delhi Metro's phase I in collaboration with its Indian joint venture partner.
While the lifts especially designed for use by the physically challenged, escalators are heavy-duty versions.
