Patil appeals to Advani to avoid rath yatra

New Delhi, Mar 14: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today (Mar 14, 2006) appealed to Leader of the Opposition L K Advani and others to refrain from taking out rath yatras.

''It (rath yatras) should be avoided as it puts pressure on the police and the law and order machinery,'' he said without mentioning the name of Mr Advani while replying to a calling attention motion on the brutal killings of tribals in Kalinganagar in Orissa.

''We shall see that the society is not divided through rath yatras,'' Mr Patil said adding ''We are leaving it to the judgement of the people.''
