MD gynaec student's suicide bid, accuses professor of harassment

Jamnagar, Mar 14 (UNI) At least 350 junior doctors of Guru Govind Singh hospital here today went on a day's flash strike to protest the suicide bid of a MD (gynaecology) student last night after she was allegedly harassed by her professor.

The student, Vaibhavi A Patel, had alllegedly taken an overdose of sleeping pills last night, but was saved in time. Now convalescing at the ICU, she is reportedly out of danger, the doctors attending her said.

In her statement to the police, she said she had taken the extreme step after being mentally harrassed by her professor, the head of the gynaecology department.

On hearing about the student's suicide bid, the junior doctors proceeded on strike, demanding action against the professor.

However, the authorites refused to talk on the issue while the concerned professor was also unavailable for comments.
