Govt to set up Sixth Central Pay Commission

New Delhi, Mar 14: The government is initiating steps to set up the Sixth Central Pay Commission (CPC), but has not yet finalised its date of constitution and mandate, the Rajya Sabha was informed today (Mar 14, 2006).

The Fifth Pay Commission was constituted on April 1993 and the report was submitted in January, 1997 and the recommendations were notified on September, 1997.

In a written reply in the Upper House, Minister of State for Finance Pawan Kumar Bansal said the recommendations of the CPC did not cover employees of the state governments. The fifth CPC estimated the financial implications of their recommendations at Rs 8,800 crores per annum, he added.
