Foreign militant killed, arms recovered in J and K

Srinagar, Mar 14: A foreign militant was killed and a large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight, n official spokesman said today (Mar 14, 2006).

He said security forces, acting on a specific information, conducted search operation at Doodwan in north Kashmir district of Baramulla in the early hours today.

However, when the security forces were about to storm a particular hideout, militants attacked them with automatic weapons and also hurled grenades. The fire was returned, and in the fierce clash, a foreign militant Zulifikar Ahmad alias Shahbaz, a resident of Pakistan, was killed. An AK rifle, 87 rounds of ammunition, three magazines, one wireless set and three hand grenades were recovered from the slain militant.

Another encounter took place between militants and security forces at Dhoke Baghwah last night during a search operation.

However, the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Later, an ak rifle, one magazine, 30 rounds of ammunition and one wireless set were recovered from the area.
