Coimbatore, Mar 14 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Special Election Officer C P Singh today said additional manpower was being deployed to ensure 90 per cent of voters were provided with Electoral Photo Identity Cards in Coimbatore district for the May 8 assembly elections.

Talking to newspersons here after a review meeting with Electoral Registration officials, he said the private company which was issuing the cards had done so only for 2.30 lakh voters in the last 11 days.

Fourteen lakh voters still remained to be provided with the cards, he pointed out and added this was in Thondamuthur, Sainganallur, Perur and Tirupur assembly constituencies.

A Bangalore based company which was issuing the cards has agreed to increase the manpower to complete the work in these constituencies, he added.

Pointing out that public response to acquire the photo identity cards was lukewarm, he appealed to the media to create an awareness.

He said following an appeal by farmers in Perambalur and Karur areas, the timing for videographing would be changed to their convenience, taking into consideration the fact that they would be busy with harvesting.

He also said new cards would be provided if those already issued had any printing errors.
