Consumer Week to be observed from March 15
Chandigarh, Mar 14 (UNI) To make the consumers, especially those in remote, rural and far flung areas more aware of their rights, Punjab will observe a week-long 'World Consumer Rights Week' from tomorrow.
State Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Avtar Henry said here yesterday that since March 15 is celebrated as World Consumer Rights Day, the consumer week would begin in Punjab on this day.
The Minister said that to provide relief to the consumers at their doorstep, District Consumer Protection Councils had been set up in each district with the Deputy Commissioners as the chairmen of these councils.
The government has directed the district administrations to arrange seminars, workshops and exhibition to create consumer awareness. Mr Henry said educational institutions had been asked to arrange essay competitions and quiz programmes on consumer health and safety during the week.
