Cong willing to ally with anyone to defeat LDF : Moily

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 14 (UNI) Congress Working Committee member in-charge of Kerala Veerappa Moily today said the party was ready to ally with anyone to defeat the Left Democratic Front(LDF) in the state assembly elections, affirming the Party High Command's move to bring the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) into its fold.

'' The party is ready to ally with anyone in the state to defeat the LDF,'' said Mr Moily who was here to discuss with the leaders on several poll related issues, especially the alliance with the DIC (K).

When asked if a decision had been taken on taking the DIC (K) into the Front, he told reporters the leaders had apprised him on the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leaders having discussions with Mr Karunakaran. ''I am here and let me discuss it with the leaders,'' he added.

Mr Moily is also scheduled to meet veteran leader Karunakaran in the coming days.

The AICC had reportedly given the green signal for an alliance with the DIC (K) in the state.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Pradesh Congress President Ramesh Chennithala, UDF convenor P P Thankachan, IUML General Secretary P K Kunhalikutty and Education Minister E T Mohamed Basheer attended the meeting.

Meanwhile, Mr Chennithala warned against leaders proclaiming their candidature without official approval. ''The list would be published only after the Central Committee officially approves it and the party will take action against those who proclaim candidature of their own,'' he added.

Lashing out at the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on the SNC Lavalin issue, he said the CPI(M) politburo was also guilty as it was protecting those who were allegedly found guilty.
