Chuchill Brothers move to final phase: bags ten points
Jamshedpur, Mar 14 (UNI) Goa's Churchill Brothers moved to the final round of the second division of 10th edition of National Football League defeating Punjab Police 1-0 in the final encounter of Group A at JRD Tata sports complex here today.
The Goan outfit, needing only a draw for qualification in the next stage, initially played casually against the policemen, who dominated the first thirty minutes.
It was Churchill, who made the breakthrough in the 40th minute when Nigerian recruit Okolie tapped a ball from the right flank and after dribbling past a number of defenders took a goal-bound shot.
The ball sneaked in between the legs of custodian Paramjit Singh (1-0), which ultimately dashed the hope of the Police team to go through to the next round.
After the lemon break Churchill squandered at least three sitters which could have increased the margin of victory in their favour.
At the end of the last match of the round robin league, Churchill led the table with 10 points, surpassing TFA, who with nine points stood second in the league while SBT was placed third with eight points.
The three teams will lock horns with the three qualifiers from the group B match in the final phase in Bangalore.
