Chennai, Mar 14 (UNI) A 70 year-old rickshaw puller, a steadfast loyalist of the party, was among those who applied for the Congress party ticket to contest the May 8 elections to Tamil Nadu assembly here today.

Munusamy, who had worked for the party for decades, was among aspirants who made a beeline at ''Satyamurthi Bhavan'', the TNCC headquarters off the arterial Anna Salai, which was bustling with hectic activity.

Munusamy told UNI that he had come down to Chennai from his home town of Ambur in Vellore district, as he came to learn from the media reports that the party was giving out applications for ticket seekers without charging any fees.

''I also thought that I could seek a ticket as I had been working for the party for several years,'' he said, expressing confidence that he would be given a chance.

About 300 partymen submitted their applications seeking the party ticket.

TNCC President M Krishnaswamy said applications were being received from all districts, and confirmed they had received 300 applications today.

''We will receive the applications till March 17,'' he said, adding the applications would be sent to the High Command on March 18. The High Command would later announce the candidates for the polls.
