Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) The World Bank and the Japanese government have agreed to support the developmental projects in Mumbai which would transform the metropolis into a world class city, Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna told a joint sitting of the State Legislature today.

In his speech on the opening day of the budget session, Mr Krishna said the government of India has constituted an expert committee for making Mumbai into an international financial centre.

Mr Krishna said so far projects including Brihanmumbai Storm water drainage and sewage, middle vaitarna, metro rail, Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Mithi river development worth Rs 11,000 crore have been submitted for central assistance.

At a recent meeting with the Planning Commission, an advance of Rs 1,000 crore has been sought from central government for these projects.

''However, without waiting for central funds, the State government has started implementing critical works such as Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP), Bandra-Worli Sea Link and Mumbai Urban Transportation Project (MUTP). The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also undertaken massive programme of road repairs'', he said adding that tenders for the Mumbai Metro Rail have been received and financial bids for the Shivdi-Nhava trans-harbour link are being invited.
