U.S. stocks open higher after merger activity

NEW YORK, Mar 13 (Reuters) U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday as news of acquisitions by Capital One Financial Corp. and McClatchy Co. was greeted by investors as a bullish sign for stocks.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 3.12 points, or 0.03 per cent, at 11,079.46. The Standard&Poor's 500 Index was up 1.50 points, or 0.12 per cent, at 1,283.08. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 7.40 points, or 0.33 per cent, at 2,269.44.
