TMMK to support DPA in TN polls
Chennai, Mar 13 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) today decided to support the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Front (DPA) in the May 8 elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
Addressing a press conference here, TMMK State President M H Jawahirullah said the party would work hard for the victory of the DPA candidates.
He said the TMMK was very keen to achieve its demand for exclusive reservation to Muslims.
The TMMK leader recalled that during the 2001 Assembly elections, the ruling AIADMK had promised in its election manifesto that it would provide exclusive reservation for Muslims.
But, the AIADMK which came to the power did not bother about its promise and did not do anything good for the Muslims.
The UPA, in its election manifesto during the last Lok Sabha elections, had promised they would take suitable steps for providing separate reservation for Muslims.
In order to honour its promise, the UPA government was taking up several follow up measures towards providing reservation for Muslims. Hence the TMMK had decided to support the DPA for the Assembly polls, he said.
