Sun to support Tata Sky with IT infrastructure
Bangalore, Mar 13 (UNI) Sun Microsystems will provide the IT infrastrucutre solutions for the new Direct to Home (DTH) television service launched by the Tata Star joint venture, Tata Sky Limited.
The DTH service was expected to go on air from the middle of this year. Tata Sky would be building a high quality digital infrastructure to offer a superior television viewing experience to Indian households.
The service was expected to enhance the choice for viewers looking for the best of pay television services in the country. Tata Sky aimed at become India's largest digital television platform, offering consumers a wide array of programming choices with interactive features and superior picture and sound quality.
The offerings from Sun Microsystems would enable the DTH Service provider to use a technological infrastructure that would be according to best-of-class and geared up to deliver high service level standards, Mr Vikram Kaushik, CEO, Tata Sky Ltd, said in a release here.
Sun Microsystems India Managing Director Bhaskar Pramanik said Sun's products were highly scalable and reliable, making it easier to deliver mission critical applications for the most exciting new DTH TV project in the world.
