Stop Maharashtra from erecting barrages on Godavari: Naidu
New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) Mr Yerran Naidu (TDP) today demanded in the Lok Sabha that the Centre direct Maharashtra to stop the work on as many as 11 barrages being constructed across Godavari river in violation of the Constitution, rule of law and the instructions of the Central Water Commission.
Raising the issue during zero hour, Mr Naidu said it was ''very, very unfortunate'' that the Maharashtra government had ignored the repeated instructions of the CWC, the latest being on March 3 in respect of the Babli barrage.
The barrages would affect the farmers in at least seven districts in Andhra Pradesh, he said.
