Society for therapeutic effects of music formed

Kochi, Mar 13: A society to study the therapeutic effects of music on various areas of medicine especially oncology, gastroenterology, neurology, cardiology and gynaecology has been formally launched here today.

Christened Indian Music Therapy Research and Development Foundation (IMTRDF), the society aims at getting Indian Music Therapy recognised by various medical counsels across the world as an authentic branch of medicine.

Inaugurating the society, renowned musician M Balamuralikrishna stresed on the need to conduct detailed research on the therapeutic effects of music in human beings.

He, however, told mediapersons that the scientific and therapeutic effects of music on human beings was only in experimental stages.

Kerala Health Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan presided over the meeting, organised to formally launch the society.
