Sensex crosses 10,800 mark even after losing early gains
Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) It was another all-time high closing for the BSE Sensex today at 10,803, with a gain of 38 points as against the last close of 10,765 points even after the index lost early gains.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) crossed the 10,800 mark for the first time today in the first half-an-hour of trading and touched a high of 10,884, with a gain of 119 points.
But the markets slipped on profit booking in the afternoon session, touching a low of 10,782 points before regaining partially.
In the morning, the Sensex had opened 30 points up at 10,795.
There was a strong rally in the technology counters today. The BSE IT index closed with a gain of 1.47 per cent and Teck index closed with a gain of 1.37 per cent.
The strong rally in the midcap and smallcap shares also, boosted the index to an all-time high but both the indices lost early gains in the afternoon.
BSE midcap index finally ended up by only 0.62 per cent and the smallcap index ended down by 0.02 per cent.
However, the BSE indices of automobile, consumer durables, banks metal and FMCG companies ended in the red by small margins.
The top ten gainers on the 30 share BSE Sensex were - TCS, Wipro, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Auto, Satyam Computers, NTPC, Tata Steel, Bharti Tele and SBI.
The losers were - ICICI Bank, HDFC, Gujarat Ambuja Cements,Grasim Industries, ITC Ltd, Hero Honda, Tata Motors, Tata Power, BHEL and Maruti Udyog.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) 50-share Nifty index crossed the 3,200 mark today and touched a high of 3,221 during the first hour of trading.
The key NSE index finally closed at 3,202 points with a gain of 18.65 points.
