Scribes protest derogatory remarks on media in UP assembly

Lucknow, Mar 13 (UNI) A large number of mediapersons took to the streets here today in protest against the recent attack on an employee of a television channel and derogatory remarks on the media fraternity made in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.

Media personnel carried out a protest march from the Parivartan Chowk to the GPO park. Later, they handed to District Magistrate R N Tripathi, a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, demanding immediate action against those gulity of attacking the employee and sought restraint in condemnation of the media.

The mediapersons wearing black bands as a mark of protest carried placards condemning the incidents.

An employee of a satellite channel was injured in an attack by a group of persons, following the channel's dispatch on disproportionate assets being allegedly held by former UP CM and BSP supremo Mayawati.

Later, in the Assembly on March 11, members of parties barring the Congress, had vehemently criticised the media for ''transgressing its limits in the name of sting operations'' and called for a check on its activities.
