Rupee ends flat at 44.51/52 per US dollar

Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) The rupee today closed flat at 44.51/52 per US dollar as against the Friday's close of 44.49/50, a dealer at the forex market here said.

Earlier in the morning rupee opened weaker at 44.53/55 per US dollar as compared to last close of 44.49/50, added the forex dealer.

The rupee trade in the range of 44.51 to 44.53 per US dollar during the mid-morning session.

Rupee ended weaker on the back of a stronger US dollar versus other international currencies, said an analyst.

Stronger opening of the equity markets and touching an all time high of 10,884 points in the morning did support rupee, but final clsoing at 10,803 with a gain of 38 points seemed to have kept rupee in a tight spot.

RBI fixed the reference rate for the rupee at 44.53 per USD.

The six-month forward premia ended higher at 2.67 per cent from Friday's close at 2.56 per cent.

The one-year forward premia closed higher at 2.07 per cent, compared to the last close of 1.97 per cent.

The cross-currency rate for the rupee against the euro was three paise down at 53.00 (53.03), for pound sterling it was 76.72 (77.27), closing down by 55 paise from its last close and for the Japanese yen it was 37.35(37.60), down by 25 paise.
