Patnaik suggests use of IT in agriculture sector

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) National Development Council (NDC) sub-committee on Agriculture and related issues today emphasised on the importance of strenthening extension services, particularly information technology (IT) for developing farmer-centric decision support system.

The meeting chaired by Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik discussed the develpment of agriculture sector in the country with the use of IT.

Other issues such as matching cropping pattern with agro-climatic zones, promotion of investment in agriculture sector and measures to promote crop diversification were discussed in the second meeting of the working group of NDC sub-committee.

The working group is expected to submit its report in a month to the NDC for fromulation of an appropriate national policy framework for agriculture.
