Pakistan rejects Afghan allegations
Islamabad, Mar 13 (UNI) Pakistan today rejected as baseless, allegations by Sibgatullah Mujadadi, head of the Afghan senate, who had blamed it for an assassination attempt on him in Kabul.
''We condemn the attack and also reject the baseless allegations (against Pakistan),'' foreign ministry spokesperson Tasneem Aslam told newspersons here.
Ms Aslam said it was unfortunate that allegations were leveled against Pakistan and drew the attention to a statement by Afghan President Hamid Karzai who said investigation was still underway.
On the recent spate of Afghan allegations of cross border infiltrations to Afghanistan from Pakistani soil, which President General Pervez Musharraf described as ''nonsensical'', the spokesperson said President Musharraf made a clear and emphatic statement, questioning the logic of disclosing intelligence information to media.
Ms Aslam said both countries were facing terrorism and it was in their interest to cooperate with each other for combating the menace.
Pakistan is cooperating with Afghanistan in this regard, she said and hoped cooperation between the two would be further intensified.
She noted a number of steps by Pakistan in this regard including the deployment of over 80,000 troops on its western border and hoped matching steps would be taken on the other side of the border.
