Over 150 taken ill after consuming food at a wedding feast

Cuttack, Mar 13 (UNI) Over 150 people, including 24 children, fell sick and were admitted to various hospitals in the city today after being served with food at a marriage feast here.

Police said nearly 500 people attended the marriage feast held at Behera Sahi in the heart of the city yesterday.

This afternoon, more than one hundred people complained of stomach pain and vomiting besides lose motion.

While over 30 people were admitted to the S C B Medical College and Hospital, others were admitted in private nurshing home and the city hospital for treatment.

Chief District Medical Officer Debendra Mohan Pattnaik said the officials had visited the marriage site and collected the food samples and water served in the feast.

He suspected that either the food served in the feast was unhygienic or the water was contaminated.

However, a clear picture would emerge once the report sent to the Chemical Laboratory was obtained, the CDMO said.

Dr Pattnaik said most of patients were said to be out of danger.
