Nearly 20 mln looted from bank in western Nepal

Kathmandu, Mar 13 (UNI) Suspected armed Maoists today looted about Rs 1.8 million from Karnali Development Bank, in Nepalgunj in western Nepal, police said.

A group of six armed people captured the guards of the bank, threatened the staff with weapons and later looted the bank. The group fled with the amount within a few minutes time, they added.

''In view of the nature of the incident, it seems that the Maoists are behind the incident,'' a police officer said.

However, Maoists have not as yet made any statement on the incident. No one has been arrested so far, police said.

Maoists have looted banks in the past too across various parts of the country.
