Jammu Mar 13(UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes with opposition National Conference staging a walk out over the issue of alleged irregularities in the Waqf board.

The oppostion created pandemonium in the House and shouted slogans against the government alleging financial irregularities and non filling of vacant posts in the board as Minister for Haj and Auqaf Peerzada Mohammed Syed was replying to a calling attention notice of Ali Mohammed Sagar.

Transport Minister Mangat Ram Sharma said a new chief executive has been appointed and assured that vacant posts will be filled soon.

Earlier, Mr Syed while replying to the call attention said the board has been functioning smoothly ever since its takeover by the government.

The Wakf organisation, which administers Muslim religious properties, had been taken over by the government during the tenure of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

The number of affiliated shrines/mosques has increased from 63 to 93 since its takeover in September 2003, Mr Syed added.
