National Family health survey will cover 60 villages in Sikkim

Gangtok, Mar 13 (UNI) At least 60 villages of Sikkim will be covered under the national family health survey that would start from the first week of next month.

Executive Director of Economic Information Technology, the implementing agency for the survey in West Bengal and Sikkim, A Roy said the villages had already been identified and steps for listing of the household initiated.

But the actual survey would be held from the first week of April and continue for two and half months, he said.

Funded by central government and some international donors, as many as 1800 women and 800 men would be interviewed by a team of 40 trained personnel and collect data on various issues during the survey.

Besides the usual data such as infant moratility rate, malnutrition cases this time the survey team would also collect blood samples from identified willing persons to identify AIDS/HIV affected persons, he said.
