More PSEs may be given navaratna status

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Centre is considering a proposal to accord the status of "Navaratna" to seven more Public Sector Enterprises (PSEs), besides the existing nine in the category making huge profits.

Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Sontosh Mohan Dev told the Lok Sabha today that the government was considering a proposal to grant navaratna status to Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification, Corporation, Grid Corporation, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, National Aluminium Company Limited and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

The nine existing Navaratna PSEs are: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, GAIL (India) Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, NTPC Ltd, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Steel Authority of India.
