Patna, Mar 13 (UNI) Former Union Law Minister and veteran lawyer Ram Jethmalani became a casualty of the decision of the RJD not to support any person outside Bihar for the Rajya Sabha.

Senior RJD leader Shivanand Tiwari, meanwhile, withdrew his nomination for the biennial election slated for March 29.

RJD MP Ram Kripal Yadav told UNI here today that the state Parliamentary Board had decided not to field or support any person from outside the state for the seat. He said the RJD would contest two seats.

Mr Jethmalani had reportedly wanted to enter the upper house of Parliament as an Independent candidate with the support of the RJD.

The RJD had 55 MLAs in the present Assembly and the party lacked requisite numerical strength to ensure its candidates romp to victory.

A candidate needs at least 36 votes to get elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Mr Tiwari said he withdrew from the elections as RJD chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad was facing serious difficulties in selecting names of the party candidates.

''I am a true friend of Mr Prasad and hence I could not accept any more difficulty for him,'' Mr Tiwari remarked, expressing confidence that his decision would 'release' tension of Mr Prasad.

He clarified that names of the party candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections had yet to be decided.
